Privacy Policy

Hold is a contemplation app operated by Seye Kuyinu. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it.

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address
• First name and last name (required by the email sign-up form)
• Phone number (optional)
• Profile display name (optional)

If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google. We do not receive or store your Google password. Google sign-in is available on iOS starting with version 1.0.1. Optional Sign in with Apple on iOS provides an Apple account identifier and your email address, which may be a private relay address if you choose Hide My Email. We do not receive or store your Apple password. Email and password sign-in remains available.

Content You Create

• Contemplations (seed thoughts)
• Journal entries (reflections, fragments, questions, shifts)
• Meditation session records (duration, completion)

Device Information

• Push notification token (if you enable notifications)
• Device platform (iOS or Android)

• Account identifier and authentication session data
• Timestamps of account creation and content activity
• Saved sitting-session duration and completion
• Basic administrative statistics, such as total users, contemplations and entries, calculated from stored records

Hold’s administrative counts are generated within its backend. We do not integrate a separate advertising network or analytics SDK. The optional YouTube player processes playback data and may show non-personalized ads as described below.

• Precise device location (YouTube may infer approximate location from your IP address)
• Contacts
• Photos, camera, or microphone access
• Browsing history
• Advertising identifiers
• Cross-app advertising or tracking data

Your data is used solely to:

• Provide and maintain the app functionality
• Sync your contemplations and entries across devices
• Send push notifications when you opt in
• Authenticate your identity
• Display basic account and content counts in the administrative dashboard

We do not sell your data or provide your contemplations, notes, account identifiers, or practice records to advertisers. The optional YouTube player connects directly to Google and may process device and playback information for its services, including non-personalized advertising.

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which uses enterprise-grade PostgreSQL databases with encryption at rest and in transit. Authentication is handled via Supabase Auth with industry-standard security practices.

Your contemplations and entries are not published to other users. Hold’s authorized administrators and service providers process stored data to operate, maintain and support the service. Content is not end-to-end encrypted.

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account in Profile > account > delete account. After confirmation, Hold deletes your account and associated contemplations, entries, meditation records, profile information and notification tokens from the active service, clears the account’s local data on that device, and signs you out. For help requesting deletion outside the app, visit our account deletion page.

You have the right to:

• Access your data at any time through the app
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Export your contemplations and entries (contact us)
• Opt out of push notifications at any time through your device settings

Hold is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We use the following third-party services:

• Supabase — database and authentication
• Expo — push notifications
• Google OAuth — optional sign-in
• Sign in with Apple — optional iOS sign-in
• YouTube — public podcast episode information and optional playback

Hold uses YouTube API Services to retrieve public Contemplative Currents episode titles and links through its server. Episode information is temporarily cached. Hold does not send your contemplations, notes, account identifiers, or practice records to YouTube.

On Android and iOS version 1.0.1 or later, selecting an episode loads the official YouTube player inside Hold. Earlier iOS versions and the web app open YouTube externally. Version 1.0.1 uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player with temporary browser storage. Loading or playing a video connects your device directly to Google, which may receive your IP address, approximate location inferred from it, device information, identifiers, and playback interactions, and may use cookies or similar technologies for playback, analytics, security, and non-personalized ads. Hold does not request access to your YouTube account or store your viewing history.

Google handles this information under its Privacy Policy. Use of YouTube features is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service. You can also open an episode in YouTube; its own privacy practices then apply.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy within the app or via email.
